Sir Bobby Charlton’s last surviving brother Tommy has spoken of his heartbreak over the loss of his beloved older sibling, who passed away in October aged 86.
In an emotional interview with Sky News, Tommy Charlton paid tribute to Sir Bobby’s incredible life and achievements, both on and off the pitch.
“He was a wonderful brother,” Tommy said. “He was always there for me, no matter what. He was my idol and my role model.”
Tommy went on to recall his fondest memories of Sir Bobby, including their shared love of football and their close bond as brothers.
“We used to play football together for hours on end,” Tommy said. “We would play in the park, in the street, even in the back garden. We loved the game and we were both very good at it.”
Tommy also spoke of Sir Bobby’s humility and his commitment to giving back to the community.
“He was a very humble man,” Tommy said. “He never let his fame go to his head. He was always willing to help others and he was a great ambassador for football.”
