Shakib Al Hasan Served Legal Notice After Bangladesh’s Disastrous World Cup Performance
Shakib Al Hasan:
Mirpur, Bangladesh: Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan has been served a legal notice demanding his resignation from the post following the team’s dismal performance in the 2023 World Cup.
The notice was sent by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Khundkar Hasan Shahriar, who also demanded the resignation of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon and CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
Bangladesh’s World Cup campaign was a far cry from expectations, as they finished eighth on the points table with just two wins from nine matches. Their defeat to the Netherlands, a team that had never won a World Cup match before, was the low point of their campaign.
In the legal notice, Shahriar blamed Shakib’s leadership, Papon’s administration, and Chowdhury’s management for the team’s failure. He also demanded the formation of a committee to investigate the reasons behind Bangladesh’s poor performance.
Shakib, who has captained Bangladesh since 2019, has now been asked to step down from the post on multiple occasions. However, he has so far refused to do so, insisting that he still has the support of his teammates and the BCB.
It remains to be seen whether Shakib will heed the latest call for his resignation. However, the pressure is mounting on him, and he may be forced to reconsider his position sooner rather than later.
