Ravichandran Ashwin’s Emotional Response to Fan’s “Leave My Beloved CSK” Comment

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently had an emotional interaction with a fan during a YouTube live session, where he was told to “leave my beloved CSK” after a disappointing IPL 2025 season with the Chennai Super Kings. Ashwin, who returned to CSK for the 2025 season after a decade, acknowledged his subpar performance and opened up about his deep connection to the franchise.

CSK endured a challenging IPL 2025, finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history. Ashwin, acquired for INR 9.75 crore in the mega auction, featured in nine matches, taking only seven wickets at an average of 40.42 and an economy rate of 9.12. His expensive spells, particularly in the powerplay, were cited as a significant concern in Chennai’s bowling struggles.

During his YouTube live, a fan’s comment stood out: “Hi dear Ashwin, with lots of love, please leave my lovely CSK family.” Instead of ignoring the criticism, Ashwin directly addressed it, demonstrating his vulnerability and commitment.

Ashwin’s candid reaction:

“One thing that I can relate to is his love for the franchise. Let’s not make one mistake. When you say something, please make sure that you’re doing it in your best interest. I understand what you’re trying to say. I also have the same love and interest. Don’t think that I’m going to let this campaign go to waste,” Ashwin stated.

He further elaborated on his efforts and self-awareness regarding his performance: “I have put in a lot of hard work, and there are areas which I can work on, which I know very clearly. In the powerplay, I have given away many runs. To bowl in the powerplay, I have to create more options next year. This is the best I can do.”

Ashwin’s emotional connection to CSK was evident as he recalled his long history with the team. He was part of the CSK setup from 2008 to 2015, winning two IPL titles (2010, 2011) and two Champions League T20 titles (2010, 2014). He is also the third-highest wicket-taker for the franchise with 127 wickets in 130 matches.

“I have the best interest of the team, and I love the team way more than all of you,” he asserted. “I was with the team in 2009 and 2010. I have played for 7 years. I have qualified with CSK for the playoffs in the past. I have won the title. So, when I see a champion like this, I feel sad for the first time. I feel sad for that. That’s why I’m sitting in a corner and crying. What to do next? This is my goal.”

His return to CSK in IPL 2025 was highly anticipated, with many hoping for a “fairytale comeback.” However, the season did not unfold as expected for both Ashwin and the team. Despite the disappointing results, Ashwin’s response highlights his dedication and determination to improve, particularly in the powerplay, for the upcoming season.

Whether CSK will retain Ashwin for the next season remains to be seen, especially given their intention to rebuild the squad. However, Ashwin’s emotional response underscores his deep loyalty to the Chennai Super Kings and his commitment to contributing to their future success.
