Ranji Trophy: Windfall for Champions
Following their dominant 169-run win over Vidarbha in the final at the Wankhede Stadium; the jubilant Mumbai team received news that their accomplishment would be rewarded even more handsomely. An official statement from MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik declared, “MCA President Amol Kale and Apex Council have decided to double the Ranji Trophy prize money. The MCA will pay an additional sum of Rs 5 crore to the winning Mumbai Ranji Trophy team.”
This announcement comes on the heels of a successful season for the MCA. Naik highlighted this in his statement, mentioning, “It has been a great year for the MCA as the association has won 7 titles and we have made it to the knockout stage in all age groups in BCCI tournaments.”
Boost for Domestic Cricketers
The decision to double the prize money was praised by Mumbai’s head coach, Omkar Salvi. He acknowledged the financial struggles many domestic cricketers face, stating, “For all the players, nowadays, there are very less institutions which provide jobs. This initiative will help young players who don’t have other jobs and sources of income.” Salvi believes this move will serve as an inspiration for players to dedicate themselves further to the sport.
