IND vs ENG 4th Test: India Fast Bowler Suffers Injury During Practice

In a concerning development for the Indian cricket team, left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has sustained an injury to his bowling hand during a practice session ahead of the crucial fourth Test against England. The incident occurred on Thursday, July 17, as India prepared to bounce back from their defeat in the third Test at Lord’s.

The Injury Setback

Reports indicate that Arshdeep Singh suffered a cut on his bowling hand while attempting to stop a powerfully hit ball during net practice. India’s assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, confirmed the injury, stating that the medical team has taken Arshdeep to see a doctor to assess the severity of the cut and determine if stitches are required.

“He took a ball, while he was bowling there, the side of the ball; he tried to stop the ball. It’s just a cut, so we have to see how bad the cut is. Obviously, the medical team is taking him to see a doctor and if he needs stitches, that is going to be important to our planning for the next few days,” Doeschate told reporters.

Impact on Team Selection

While Arshdeep Singh is yet to make his Test debut in the ongoing series, his injury could still impact India’s team combination for the Old Trafford Test, which begins on July 23. He was considered a potential option for the playing XI, especially with discussions around workload management for frontline pacers like Jasprit Bumrah.

The team management now faces a selection dilemma, as the availability of Arshdeep and the need to manage Bumrah’s workload will be key factors in deciding the pace attack for the vital match.

Current Series Situation and Other Injury Concerns

India currently trails England 1-2 in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. With the series on the line, the visitors must win both remaining Tests to secure the series.

Adding to India’s injury woes, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant also sustained an injury to his left index finger during the third Test at Lord’s. While he batted in both innings with pain, his keeping duties remain a concern. India’s assistant coach stated that Pant’s ability to keep wickets will be assessed closer to the match, but he is expected to bat.

Meanwhile, England has also been hit by injuries, with off-spinner Shoaib Bashir ruled out of the remainder of the series due to a fractured left little finger. Liam Dawson has been called up as his replacement.

The fourth Test at Old Trafford promises to be a high-pressure encounter for both teams, as they grapple with fitness issues and aim to secure a crucial victory.
