Fiery Rabada reaches 500: A Proteas milestone

South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada reached a landmark 500 international wickets on Tuesday, joining an elite group of Proteas pacemen to achieve the feat. Rabada’s milestone wicket came during the first Test between India and South Africa at Centurion, where he ripped through the Indian batting line-up with a stunning five-wicket haul.

At just 28 years old, Rabada has already established himself as one of the world’s leading fast bowlers. His express pace, coupled with his ability to swing the ball both ways, makes him a constant threat to batsmen. Rabada’s journey to 500 wickets has been nothing short of remarkable. He made his international debut in 2014 and quickly rose to prominence, taking his first Test wicket in just his second match.

Since then, Rabada has gone on to take wickets across all formats of the game. He has 285 wickets in Tests, 157 in ODIs, and 58 in T20Is. His best bowling figures in Tests are 7/112, which he achieved against England at Lord’s in 2018.

Rabada’s 500th wicket was a memorable one. He dismissed Indian opener KL Rahul with a searing yorker that crashed into the middle stump. He then went on to take the wickets of Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Shardul Thakur to finish the day with figures of 5/44.

Rabada’s 500th wicket is a significant milestone in his career. It is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and talent. With many years of cricket still ahead of him, Rabada looks set to add many more wickets to his tally and cement his place in South African cricketing history.
