BCCI Slaps ₹30 Lakh Fine On Rishabh Pant For IPL Code Of Conduct Breach vs RCB

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been hit with a hefty fine of ₹30 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his team’s slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This marks the third time LSG has committed an over-rate offense this season.

Third Offense Leads to Stiff Penalty

The fine is significantly higher than usual because it was LSG’s third breach of the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over-rate offenses in the current season. As per the IPL regulations, repeat offenses lead to escalating

penalties for the captain.

Fines for Entire Playing XI

In addition to Pant’s substantial fine, the rest of the LSG playing XI, including the Impact Player, were also penalized. Each member was individually fined either ₹12 lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever amount was lesser.

Match Context: Pant’s Century in Vain

The incident occurred during Match No. 70 of the TATA IPL 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. Despite Rishabh Pant’s sensational unbeaten century (118 off 61 balls), which helped LSG post a formidable total of 227/3, his team ultimately lost the match to RCB by six wickets. RCB successfully chased down the target with remarkable ease, securing a crucial victory that propelled them into Qualifier 1.

Rishabh Pant accepted the sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required regarding the breach. The BCCI and IPL have consistently emphasized maintaining appropriate over-rates to ensure timely completion of matches.
